The "ouvrier" (workers) meal was wholesome and filling - 5 courses + wine & coffee all for 13€ per person! Just before Rouffillac (from Sarlat) you pass through a tunnel - bright & well lit (well, it is if you remember to remove your sunglasses, it is!!) which adds to the attraction of this route. The toilets en route are very clean - the ones at the old station at Carsac are the cleanest public toilets I have every visited in France! Often stops for refreshments mean a drop down off the voie verte into the village but this is literally usually only 50m and takes 2 minutes on a bike! We stopped for lunch at Rouffillac at the restaurant of the same name at a crossroads where there is a Tourist Office and bridge over the Dordogne. There is a carpark at the Sarlat start point (out near the railway station, at the roundabout Madrazes - opposite the rugby ground) and from there you can go in easy stages for as much or as little of the full 24kms as you please, visiting some very pretty villages en route along the Dordogne river valley. It is suitable for all ages - very young to very old! A fantastic and "easy" ride on bikes, a nice walk and also great for wheelchair access there's plenty of facilities en route, including toilets, picnic tables and benches. This is a superb "green-way" which has been constructed on an old dis-used railway line which is a tarmac surface and is safe for children & adults alike, well-maintained and, for the most part, almost level.
